Lighting the Industry

Industrial Lighting

With more than 50 years’ experience in manufacturing quality industrial luminaires, and with 7 UK factories, Tamlite understands the requirements of lighting for hazardous applications. Whether its internal, external or emergency lighting in high risk environments, Tamlite’s range of lighting solutions has been designed to withstand the toughest conditions.

All hazardous area lighting must demonstrate compliance to ATEX directives – providing assurance that the luminaire should not cause an explosion during routine operation. There are many examples of applications which may require hazardous area lighting, including:

  • Petrol Stations
  • Flour and paper mills
  • Garages
  • Chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturers
  • Painting workshops
  • Bakeries or other food manufacturers

The below table summarises the definition of ATEX zones:

Gas / Vapour Dust / Air Mixtures Definition ATEX
0 20 A place in which an explosive atmosphere is continually present or for long periods
(>1000 hours/year)
1G or 1D equipment suitable for
Zone 0 to Zone 20
1 21 A place in which an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally
(>10<1000 hours/year)
2G or 2D equipment suitable for
Zone 1 to Zone 21
2 22 A place in which an explosive atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation, but if it does only for short periods
(<10 hours/year)
3G or 3D equipment suitable
for Zone 2 to Zone 22

Lighting Solutions for Zone 2/22 Hazardous Applications

ZENITH X

Large factories and industrial facilities have multiple lighting requirements: walkways and open areas, high risk machinery spaces, and mezzanines and storage zones.

The new ZENITH X is Tamlite’s latest linear luminaire for industrial buildings, offering the complete solution for large industrial sites to improve the safety of workers and improve uniformity.

EXPLORER X

Lighting for industrial environments is more than just indoor spaces. External hazardous environments need the right lighting to help keep employees safe – as heavy vehicles and machinery are commonplace, but also dust and gas in Zone 2/22 spaces.

The new EXPLORER X is a high-performance outdoor floodlight, delivering enhanced illumination and uniformity to improve worker safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

ELITE X

The ELITE X is Tamlite’s IP66 rated bulkhead, robust enough to weather the most extreme indoor industrial conditions – water and dust resistant, fully operational in a huge range of temperatures (-20°C to +40°C) and designed to withstand high risk explosions.

ELITE X EM

Emergency lighting is crucial in industrial facilities, providing life-saving illumination in high-risk environments; delivering the right light for workers to see what they are doing in the event of an emergency or loss of mains power.

The new Tamlite ELITE X combines high performance emergency lighting with a robust, IP66 rated body – making it the ideal emergency solution for hazardous industrial applications.

CYCLONE X

The IP66 rated CYCLONE X is ideal for high risk industrial applications and external canopied spaces. Its polycarbonate body and diffuser ensure it is resistant to water and dust ingress – as well as impact resistant to IK08.
