Elan Valley Visitor Centre, Rhayader

The Elan Valley Visitor Centre, part of the Elan Estate run by Welsh Water, is the starting point for anyone wishing to visit the Elan Valley.

The Valley is populated with an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty. Of course, this makes it a popular destination for families and other visitors.

Previously, the centre was using track and spot lighting, with spotlights illuminating the boards around the centre. This highlighted and explained various aspects of the Elan Estate. However, this angled lighting was not aesthetically pleasing for the Visitor Centre, as the lack of uniformity made the room seem much darker.

Tamlite were commissioned to supply a new lighting system at the visitor centre. Sticking with a linear trunking system, the SIGMUN luminaire was installed. The modular shape of the lights, in comparison to the spotlights used previously, gives a much more even light distribution.

The SIGNUM modules gave a wide beam angle. As a result, this means that the room is illuminated more evenly than the narrow beam spotlights did before. The even light distribution makes the whole room appear brighter, no matter the weather outside.

In the end, the Visitor Centre and meeting room have been made significantly more visually appealing since the lighting refit. Therefore, Elan Valley are extremely pleased with the outcome, as the room is now a much more attractive space for visitors.
