One
of the biggest issues for those involved in the design of
new buildings or the maintenance of existing ones is energy
efficiency. The efficient management of the earths resources
now influences many key decisions in public and commercial
environments. Lighting accounts for approximately 16% of
the UK’s
total electricity consumption and in commercial office installations
it can represent half of all energy use.
With this in mind Tamlite Lighting can offer a wide range
of products and services that reduce these costs by up to
60%. Many of those products also help designers and installers
comply with the latest building regulations.
TLC’ (Tamlite Lighting Controls) comprises of 2 basic
lighting control options (dimming or switching) as either
manual or autoamatic systems. In many instances the provision
of basic lighting control devices can greatly reduce energy
costs through presence or daylight switching. In some instances
both methods can be used to provide even greater savings.
Dimming control can provide a number of significant benefits
for designers and end-users. With the wide range of dimmable
control gear and dimming systems available the savings on
energy consumption can provide swift returns on the initial
expenditure. Dimming of fluorescent or halogen light sources
can also provide enhanced aesthetic value to many applications
and give the designer the opportunity to create a more dynamic
and appealing effect.
Dimming systems can be split into 2 broad categories, either
manual or automatic. Tamlite offer options on both systems.
MANUAL DIMMING
The simplest and yet often most effective method is to provide
dimmable control gear and an appropriate wall (or remote
control) dimmer switch. Tamlite offer 2 options for wall
switch dimming. These options are noted on each product page
where the option is applicable.
HFD
This system offers the most up to
date, fully electronic, digital control gear to provide accurate,
noise-free dimming. High frequency digital dimming is suitable
most fluorescent lamps in the market and is ideal for commercial
office applications. The system utilises a DSI digital 8
bit code to transmit the dimming signal along the control
circuit. The dimming is done via a wall mounted retractive
wall switch.
HFR
Standard analogue, 1-10V dimming options
are also available and these operate via a rotary wall dimmer
switch (Order code LPS100)
HFREM
The HFREM system offers a full remote control facility over
a maximum of 5 different lighting circuits each one
with a maximum of 25 ballasts. This is designed for showrooms,
lecture theatres and conference rooms. Each lighting circuit
can be dimmed up or down and switched on or off. Furthermore
a there is the facility to save and recall 3 different scene
settings.
The kit comes complete with hand held remote, wall bracket,
remote sensor and ballast control units. This system operates
under the HFD (DSI) control system and compatibility with
new or existing luminaires is imperative.
AUTO DIMMING
Modern dimming systems that accommodate automatic daylight
control provide the ultimate in energy efficient lighting
control systems. With the Tamlite ‘TLC’ system
savings of up to 70% are possible. These savings are made
through a more economical use of the lamp as well as efficient
use of daylight sensors which automatically dim the lights
according to the daylight entering a room.
here are also other benefits. The accurate dimming control
means there is no adverse effect on the lamp life and defective
lamps are automatically shut down and restarted after lamp
change.
The Tamlite Lighting ‘TLC’ system can offer a
solution for virtually any application. Design of a new system
to incorporate into a new or existing lighting ystem is vital
and can be undertaken by our team of field sales engineers
or by our Design Team in Telford. TLC1 & TLC2 provide
a complete dimming solution for most everyday applications.
TLC1
TLC 1 provides a basic lighting control
system that incorporates the following features.
- Presence detector and daylight sensor in one compact ceiling
mounted unit
- Must be used with Tamlite Lighting HFD dimming options
- Requires separate 0-10V wiring BUS
- Suitable for small office areas
- Can control a maximum of 4 luminaire ballasts
- Push to make wall switch can also beused to provide manual
override

TLC2
A larger system that uses a separate control interface that
connects the room sensor to the HFD ballast units within
the luminaires.
- Presence detector and daylight sensor in one compact ceiling
mounted unit
- Separate control module included that connects sensor to
luminaire ballasts via twin twisted pair of screened cable
(Belden 8723)
- Must be used with Tamlite Lighting HFD dimming options
TLC1 and TLC2 can be programmed via an optional hand-held
programmer (order code TLC1REM)

SCENE SETTING
Tamlite Lighting can also offer a wide range of scene setting
systems which are designed for conference rooms, lecture
theatres and other areas where a pre-set lighting levels
can be selected via remote or wall switching.
These help designers create an easy to use, dynamic and versatile
lighting system that creates different moods for different
occasions. There are many options available depending on
the light sources selected for the application. Both the
Halogen and fluorescent systems rely on the compatibility
of the control gear with the ‘TLC’ system selected.
Please consult with our Technical Department before specifying.
